Wishing Moon by Michael O. Tunnell

Title: The Wishing Moon
Author: Michael O. Tunnell
Reviewer: Stephanie
Genre: YA Fantasy
Rating: Love
Alerts/Warnings: Some minor violence
Premise: Aminah is an orphan living on the streets of Al-Kal'as. When she appeals to the princess for help, the black-hearted wife of Aladdin throws an old lamp at her head. The lamp holds an obstreperous jinni who informs Aminah that she can make three wishes after each full moon. With the jinni's magic, Aminah regains security and comfort, and she even assembles a makeshift family. Still, Aminah cannot achieve true happiness until she has improved the lives of the people she left behind.

Opinions: This is the story of Aminah who comes into possesion of Aladin's lamp from Aladin's princess who does not know of the jinni. This is an interesting book and begs the question: if you had 3 wishes every full moon what would you do with them? Aminah realizes that all the comforts of the world do not replace a family and love and kindness. It is a story about the true meaning of happiness told in a interesting way. I love that this book makes me think and is suprising and I didn't know where it was going. It was full of suprises and loveable characters that were realistic. Every time I read it, I enjoy it even more.
