The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien
Title: The Hobbit, or, There and Back Again
Author: J.R.R. Tolkien
Reviewer: Karen
Genre: Adult Fantasy
Rating: Fabulous
Alerts/Warnings: Violence associated with battle
Premise: "Bilbo Baggins, a respectable, well-to-do hobbit, lives comfortably in his hobbit-hole until the day the wandering wizard Gandalf chooses him to take part in an adventure from which he may never return." (King County Library System)
Opinions: Of all the stories surrounding the hobbits and middle-earth, this one is my absolute favorite. This is a grand tale of an unlikely hero going on an incredible adventure. There is a lot of description of background and scenery that may tend to bog some readers down. However, if you can overcome that, I think you will find yourself drawn into an amazing world with dwarfs, trolls, dragons, elves and so much more. A story with characters that are full of depth and individuality. I love Bilbo, but I love the mischievous Gandalf even more (even though he only pops up from time to time). Please, if you are a fantasy fan and ever get a moment, and can overcome the plethora of description, then please read this story. I'm positive that you will love it.
