Title: The Rumpelstiltskin Problem

Author: Vivan Vande Velde

Reviewer: Stephanie

Genre: YA Fantasy

Rating: Like

Alerts/Warnings: None

Premise: A Collection of variations on the familiar story of a boastful miller and the daughter he claims can spin straw into gold. (King County Library System)

Opinions: I found this book while on a friends website and I thought it sounded intruiguing. However, I thought it was going to be different than it was. I read the prologue, which goes through all the problems of the fairy tale, and I thought it would be a whole book about the discrepencies in fairy tales, specifically Rumpelstiltskin. (PS Whoever came up with the name Rumpelstiltskin never had to write it down!) This book, however, goes through the problems of the story and then offers six alternate stories of how to explain Rumpelstiltskin. Each has a different sympathetic character and different villain. Some have magic, some don't. All are quick reads and a delightfully easy and enjoyable book to read.

Hey wow, I didn't know you followed. Or that that little post would make you want to read that collection. Thanks. It is a very light read, but seeing the different angles a single fairy tale could be taken was very interesting. Just for this, I'll do a blog review for you, just name the book.
